General description:.............................. (Back to top)
- Like most hotels on this island, the Waikiki Resort was built in the early 70's. It sits barely a third of a block away (about 40 yards away) from the beach in one of the most central areas of Waikiki. The hotel underwent an extensive renovation that ended on December 2007. It has 19 floors and almost 300 rooms, most of which are in the hotel room category with a few 1 and 2 bedroom suites. The common areas are open and ample and include a large lobby and front desk, Port Cochere, restaurant coffee shop, bar, ballroom and swimming pool.
What we like about this hotel:.............................. (Back to top)
- The central location and proximity to the ocean are two items highly sought after by visitors and locals alike.
After the renovation the rooms look fresh and new.
- Due to the fact that is off Kalakaua Avenue, the rates are more moderate but is so close to the beach that it feels no different than the properties on Kalakaua with the added advantage of the reduced noise level.
- The hotel has two parking areas, one covered and the other open, this might be especially suited for high clearance vehicles such as pick up trucks and large vans. Please keep in mind that all Waikiki hotels charge for parking and the Waikiki Resort is no exception.
- The hotel is 2 blocks away from the International Market place but only 3 blocks away from Kapiolani Park, so it is walking distance to both, talk about perfect location.
What you may not like about this hotel:.............................. (Back to top)
- Every floor in this hotel has 2 rooms called "mini" that not only are smaller than the others but also was not included in the last renovation, the master plan seems to include combining these 2 rooms into a suite but that will be done some time in a later date, in the meantime these rooms are still offered. Because of the size and the act that they were not part of the last renovation, it is like staying in a 2 star room within a 3 star hotel, in other words if you are looking for a 3 star rating, book from the Standard rooms and up, if you are not looking for a fancy room, the minis can be a great value and very close to the beach.
- Even though all rooms have a refrigerator, most do not have a coffee maker or microwave. So called Deluxe Studios do have a small microwave in the unit.
- The swimming pool is adequate but not very big, but then again, that is a common problem for hotels in the Waikiki area.
- Based on your particular needs and the objective of your trip, this hotel may have other pros and cons that you should consider, call us at 8083942112 for more information.
